Humans of Middle School: Alex

“My family has some Christmas traditions like most families. One of the traditions is to make a porridge called riisipuuro which is made out of rice and tastes like rice pudding. We make it together with the family which usually takes about 2 hours and then eat it with cinnamon and sugar.” "People used to be more poor back in the 40’s and 50’s and they couldn't afford anything else so they made this porridge but instead of rice they used wheat instead. Usually during this time we go to our grandma’s house and make riisipuuro because she has old recipes that her mother used to have. It's fun to make the food and talk to each other. After eating, we open our presents. In Finland we don’t celebrate Christmas on the 25th but we celebrate it on the 24th.” See more stories from #Ken
