Exit Interview: Ms. Uemura
It is the end of the school year which means that we will soon have to say goodbye to a few of our favorite teachers. This year, 17 middle school teachers are leaving and over the next 15 school days, The Direct Message will post an ‘Exit Interview’ that we conducted with each of these educators. My amazing students ! I have been fortunate to build relationships with some great human beings who happen to be in Middle School. What is the best part about being a teacher at AES? I love the diversity of our student body. AES feels truly international. I get to meet, talk to, and teach/learn with kids from all over the world. What are your plans for next year and what are your thoughts about this next step? I will be moving to Seoul, Korea to teach MS Science at Korea International School. Though I am sad to be leaving my students and colleagues here, I am excited about this new adventure. I’ve been to Korea before, but I have never lived there. I look forward to exploring, meeting new people, and eating lots of Korean food…I love kimchi! Oh, and jimjilbang!! How do you hope your students and colleagues will remember you? I hope they remember my smile and laugh. I hope they remember me as being an educator willing to innovate and try new things and learn new things. I hope my students know that while I am tough that I also care very much for them and want them to be exceedingly successful. What message would you like to leave for the community at AES? The outpouring of love and support for me when I was diagnosed with breast cancer and went through treatment meant so very much to me. On the really hard days when I was in pain or very sick…the cards, messages, flowers, books, gifts, videos…all of that helped me get better and were a great encouragement to me. I will never forget your thoughtfulness. What the students had to say. Elizabeth Weiler What will you remember about Ms. U? “One thing I will remember about Ms. U is her loud and ferocious roar for camp snow leopard.” What makes Ms. U unique? “Ms. U is unique because she’s sarcastic and funny, but in a way that doesn’t insult people which I really like.” What is a funny or memorable story that you have about this teacher? “Something that was really funny was when Donald Trump was elected president and she was really angry and she went on a really long rant about how terrible he was, and now whenever we mention him, she goes off onto another rant, but it’s really funny.” Grace Lastova What will you remember about Ms. U? “The thing that I’ll remember the most about Ms.U is how inspirational
and caring she is. She always put her students first and made
sure that everyone understood everything, which is something I really like about her.” What makes Ms. U unique? “Ms.U is unique because she gives off a certain energy when you are with her that makes you want to work harder and do your best. Like you always are upbeat and ready to go.” What is a funny or memorable story that you have about Ms. U? “Ms.U was my WOW camp leader, and my favorite memory from WOW with her is when we were on the same raft and we played lots of games.” Lola Gupta What will you remember about Ms. U? “Something I will really remember about Ms. U is having her as an advisory teacher and science teacher and her funny jokes.” What makes Ms. U unique? “Ms. U is one of the most unique teachers I have ever had, she’s really laid back, but strict when she needs to be, and she is so funny, almost every time I am with her I am with her I am out of breath from laughing.” What is a funny or memorable story that you have about Ms.U? “It’s really hard to choose one because she’s so memorable and so funny.” #AwESome #comebacksoon #ExitInterviews
