Exit Interviews: Mr. Brian Feeley

It is the end of the school year which means that we will soon have to say goodbye to a few of our favorite teachers. This year, 13 middle school teachers are leaving or moving out of the middle school. Over the final weeks of school, The Direct Message will post an ‘Exit Interview’ that we conducted with each of these educators. "Interacting with and getting to know so many cool students and faculty." What is the best part about being a teacher at AES? "Firstly, what I already said in Question 1… getting to work with so many cool and interesting students and adults. Secondly, I really appreciated the school’s focus on equity… treating people of all races, religions, and sexuality with dignity and respect!"
What are your plans for next year and what are your thoughts about this next step? (Please include where you will be and your work plan, if applicable.) "The plan is to be fully retired and not working. I will split time between Bali and the USA… relaxing, exercising, spending time with friends and family, and hmmm… maybe playing some games!😁" How do you hope your students and colleagues will remember you? "Just as someone who was genuinely interested in students and adults as individuals and who tried to be friendly and nice to everyone when he could!" What message would you like to leave for the community at AES? "Stay safe, stay sane, and try to mix in some fun with all your responsibilities!" What students had to say. Charlie, Grade 8 What will you remember about this teacher? "I will remember how he always tries to make classes more fun and humorous. I won’t forget how much he cares about his students and their learning. Mr. Feeley always gives us time to revise and genuinely wants us to do the best we can!" What is a funny or memorable story that you have about this teacher? "A funny story is when Mr. Feeley came into class one day with a broken wrist. When we asked him what happened he said he had “Gamers Thumb”, a term he made up!" What makes this teacher unique? "I love the fact that Mr. Feeley has a scale model of a pufferfish just floating around in his room! He also lets us play kahoots, but there is always something weird with the game's music - it either doesn't work or is disco-themed for some reason." Ronan, Grade 8 What will you remember about this teacher? " The fact that he is really nice and he helps a lot and when I have questions I can always go and ask him. " What is a funny or memorable story that you have about this teacher? " My aunt in Florida applied for his job so if she got the job, she would be going from Florida to India, while Mr. Feeley is going from India to Florida in the future " What makes this teacher unique? " He is unique because he had us play Kahoots and Gimkits almost every class which was really fun and made his class a lot better. " Eskil, Grade 8 What will you remember about this teacher? " I will remember all the mornings that I spent on zoom over the summer break. How Mr. Feeley always has a story for these meetings. I will remember how before the class starts he would come over to my table to share something new he learned. I will remember how Mr. Feeley was able to have just a normal conversation with his students. " What is a funny or memorable story that you have about this teacher? " Over the summer break, there was the Science Club where we would just talk about whatever we wanted to talk about-mostly science- and Mr. Feeley would come to the Club for almost every meeting, and he would have so many interesting ideas and thoughts! " What makes this teacher unique? " His normal discussions with students. Many times he has gone out of his way to join the Science Club. And all the conversations before class.
