It is the end of the school year which means that we will soon have to say goodbye to a few of our favorite teachers. This year, 7 middle school teachers are leaving and over the next 7 school days, The Direct Message will post an ‘Exit Interview’ that we conducted with each of these educators.

Course Taught: Humanities 8 What will you miss most about AES?
The students of course! And the amazing teachers, campus, activities and Tiger spirit. What is the best part about being a teacher at AES?
How we have a lot of freedom to teach what we feel are the most important things for students to learn. What are your plans for next year and what are your thoughts about this next step?
I am moving to Manila with my family and we are excited for this next adventure. I am looking into teaching at the international school there. In the meantime, I’m continuing my work as a freelance writer and will be working on some educational materials for National Geographic. How do you hope your students and colleagues will remember you?
Man, kind of feels like I’m dying ; ) In a way, moving is like changing the channel on T.V.: just like that your life is in a new place, but the old place is still moving along like it was before you left. I hope students and colleagues remember me happy to be on this channel, and I hope they remember that I really enjoyed working with them and learned a lot from them.

I will remember how Ms. Fowler always used to give some form of encouragement to the students.
What is a funny or memorable story that you have about Ms. Fowler?
Every single day in her class is relatively memorable and comical, so it’s difficult to pick something specific.
What makes Ms. Fowler unique?
The leniency of Ms. Fowler really improved the quality and enjoyment level of Humanities throughout the year.

I will remember how well she could relate to the students, and in a short, just understand them.
What is a funny or memorable story that you have about Ms. Fowler?
I remember in one of Ms. Fowler’s classes, we were reading the Feed, and we looking at forms of slang that teens use, and it was very memorable to see Ms. Fowler in that unique persona.
What makes Ms. Fowler unique?
The relaxing and warm environment of Ms. Fowler’s classes is what separated it from other ones.

What will you remember about Ms. Fowler?
I will always remember how understanding Ms. Fowler is, and also how kind her classroom can be at times.
What is a funny or memorable story that you have about Ms. Fowler?
The debate about Snapchat; we were debating in class on whether Snapchat should be banned in school or not. It was memorable because of how Ms. Fowler was also very engaging in the debate.
What makes Ms. Fowler unique?
Ms. Fowler encourages discussions in our class, we’re always discussing the topics in excessive detail. I really hope there are more teachers like Ms. Fowler in 9th grade.
