Probably the biggest sporting event this year is coming relatively soon. As you might know, the 2022 Football World Cup is finally happening. After four years of waiting, all the football fans will finally get to see their favorite teams play against each other in the biggest tournament of the world.
Unfortunately, unlike in previous years, the tournament will be happening later than usual; it will be in the winter season. This decision was made to avoid the hot temperatures of Doha, the capital of Qatar. This will be the first time the World Cup will be held in the Middle East.
For the people who will be watching the matches in person, this might just be the most convenient World Cup that has ever happened. That is because all stadiums are within 56 kilometers of the modern capital. Something interesting about this year’s event is that it lasts only 28 days! That will make the World Cup the shortest since the 1978 special edition. Also, this will be the last time that there will be 32 teams participating; starting in 2026, the number of teams will go all the way up to 48, but that’s a story for another day.
The last World Cup was in Russia, where Croatia and France fought it out in the finals, which took place in Moscow. France won with a score of 4-2, which was the second time they had won the World Cup. The first time France outlasted all the other teams was back in 1998 in their homeland of Paris.
From previous experience, we can expect that France won't be a strong team this season as they have achieved their goal last. Croatia, however, might dominate as they will be even more eager to get that win. Some other countries you might want to watch out for are:
